Scars are an undesirable yet normal outcome of wound healing.
Silicone-based products for scar management have been available for the past 30 years and are recommended in current guidelines as the gold standard for the prevention and treatment of hypertrophic scars and keloids. They are a first-line, non-invasive treatment option.
The Evolution of Silicone in Scar Management
Silicone has been developed in several forms, including silicone cream compounds, gels, and gel sheets. NomoScar is a silicone gel sheet containing 100% medical-grade silicone. Among the various formats, silicone gel sheets, such as NomoScar, are the most widely used in scar management. Studies have shown that gel sheets are the preferred method of treatment.
Why NomoScar Gel Sheets Stand Out
NomoScar silicone gel sheets are more advantageous over topical formulations. Once applied, the gel sheet can be left on for most of the day. In contrast, other topical formulations must be applied multiple times daily, and patients must also ensure areas covered by clothing are completely dry before getting dressed, which is considered inconvenient for most users. This highlights the advantage of using a gel sheet, such as NomoScar, which allows clothing to be worn immediately after application. Complete instructions for use are included in each pack.
Long-Term Commitment for Effective Scar Treatment
Scar management is not an overnight solution. It typically requires consistent use over 3 to 6 months, underscoring the importance of patient education and long-term adherence. Products that integrate easily into daily life, such as NomoScar, can significantly improve patient outcomes by simplifying the treatment regimen.
Convenient Availability and Packaging
NomoScar is available at pharmacies and can be ordered from any pharmaceutical wholesaler of choice. It is marketed in a medical-grade, peel-open pouch in a 3 cm × 15 cm and 10 cm × 10 cm pack size. NomoScar is self-adhesive. For small scars, NomoScar can be cut to fit the scar size, ensuring a minimum of 1 cm overlap on the surrounding intact skin.
Recommended Usage Guidelines
It is recommended that NomoScar be applied for up to 4 hours during the first two days, and up to 8 hours on the following two days. Thereafter, usage can be incrementally increased by 2 hours daily, until reaching a maximum application of 18 hours per day. NomoScar can be reused up to 25 times.
Easy Maintenance for Reuse
The NomoScar gel sheet can be washed after each use by applying mild soap to the adhesive side and rinsing under gently flowing tap water. All dirt (including dust, hair, fabric fibres, etc.) must be removed and the gel sheet dried with the lint-free cloth included in the packaging.
Medical Aid Compatibility and Contact Information
NomoScar is NAPPI-coded, allowing claims to be processed through most medical aid schemes. Please visit our website at www.lebasi.co.za, or contact us at info@lebasi.co.za for more information.
